Sweden called on Saudi Arabia to release all political prisoners.
In the context of discussions on the fourth item of the 46th session of the Human Rights Council on 12 March 2021, Ms. Anna Jardfelt stated that her country, despite recent steps taken by Saudi Arabia, is concerned about the use of terrorism legislation against individuals who peacefully exercise their rights.
Sweden had criticized Saudi Arabia before the council during previous sessions, calling on it to respect freedom of opinion and expression. In addition, it also participated in the three public statements signed by dozens of countries criticizing Saudi Arabia’s human rights violations.
