Denmark expresses grave concern over Saudi Arabia’s use of torture and execution

22 March، 2021

Denmark has expressed concern that Saudi Arabia continues to prosecute civil society activists.

In a speech delivered by Mr. Morten Jespersen on 12 March 2021 to the Human Rights Council at its 46th session, Denmark indicated that it notes with concern the use of torture in Saudi Arabia.

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights (ESOHR) had documented Saudi Arabia’s use of torture in prisons, which in some cases has led to death.

In addition, Jespersen expressed his country’s concern about the continued use of the death penalty in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government had announced several changes in the death penalty file, especially the moratorium on the death sentences against minors, but the organization’s monitoring confirmed continued threat of death in a number of them.
