At the Human Rights Council, Iceland expressed its concerns regarding the status of human rights advocates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At a speech before the 43rd session of the HRC, during the discussions of Item 4, Iceland’s permanent representative, Harald Aspelund, expressed his country’s concerns over the ongoing detention and trial of many individuals for exercising their legitimate rights.

Iceland had previously led a joint statement condemning Saudi Arabia’s practices, signed by 36 nations, during the 40th session of the HRC. It was the first collective statement issued by the nations on the HRC, as a result of the increasing and expanding violations in recent years.
