Sixteen non-governmental organizations demanded Saudi Arabia to return the bodies of individuals that had been killed and their bodies detained, including the bodies of at least 8 minors.

The signatories called for those responsible for the executions to be held accountable, and for the remains of the dead to be returned to their families, as the family demanded several times. The statement asked for the rights of the families to bury their loved ones and mourn them according to their traditions, beliefs, and cultural and religious practices.

The statement pointed out that the Saudi government’s failure to return the bodies raises serious concerns that the bodies have been mutilated or ill-treated. It pointed out that the horrific murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, prompted family members to speculate that their loved ones might have been subjected to similar heinous and inhumane practices.
The signatories emphasized that Saudi Arabia, through this practice, which affects alongside Saudis, migrant workers, violates international law, especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
