Luxembourg criticizes Saudi Arabia’s retaliatory practices against human rights advocates

Luxembourg’s delegate to the United Nations, Anne Goedert, sharply criticized the treatment of human rights advocates in several countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In her statement before the 45th session of the Human Rights Council, Ms. Goedert noted the acts of violence and retaliation carried out against human rights advocates. Her speech noted that impunity for heinous crimes is unacceptable and explained the importance of the role of the High Commissioner and UN mechanisms, including special rapporteurs, in preventing this.

Saudi Arabia has already rejected the report of the special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions and killings in the case of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, thus raising concerns that those responsible for his murder will go unpunished.
