Iceland from the HRC: Saudi step of lifting ban on women’s driving isn’t enough, and expresses its concerns over the rising number of executions

The Deputy Ambassador of Iceland in the United Nations organizations Ms. Nina Björk called for taking several steps along with the last step that enabled women to get their right to drive, to raise the level of their rights practice.

The statement that delivered under the fourth item of the thirty-eighth session of the Human Rights Council on June 27, 2018, pointed out the concern of Iceland over the reports that confirmed the raising rates of executions in Saudi Arabia. Besides, the statement called on the Saudi government to end the war on Yemen.

Likewise, the European Saudi Organisation for Human Rights has documented the increased rate of executions in Saudi Arabia during the first six months of 2018, which increased by 27% compared with the first six months of 2017, where 52 people were executed this year, compared with forty-one executions last year.
